A stripe that widens cannot be a tape; it has to be a cut panel, with a curved seam following the flare, and that seam is the design line, where a millimetre of drift at the ankle reads across a room. The grey is a lighter cloth than the black, so both go on the same grain, or the panel hangs differently and pulls the hem out of level. The flare sits above the break, where the stack leaves it showing.

The leg leaves the seat wide and stays that way to the hem, so it swings clear of the calf rather than following it. No cuff gathers the ankle, so the opening stays full and settles over the shoe rather than closing round it. The grey panel rides the outer seam, away from the fold the leg makes when you sit.

Autumn and spring, and a warm winter indoors. Made for the street, gigs and long rides. Wear it with a plain white tee and a chunky trainer, or a cropped jacket, so the flare shows; keep the top short or the leg loses its line. One cut, and the length sits right on any frame, whatever the height.
