The hem band is the tell on a garment this loose: it is cut shorter than the body opening, so it pulls the zip straight when closed, and a band cut to the same length leaves the placket waving open down the front. The pant hem is finished flat, unribbed, and left deliberately over-long, which only holds a stack if the leg is wide enough to break over the shoe instead of bunching at the shin.
