The 260 gsm is doing a job rather than filling a spec sheet: the cloth is heavy enough to hold the ink without it bleeding through, so the inside of the shirt stays clean and a dark shape does not halo into the pale ground around it. Weight on a printed shirt is a print decision, not a comfort one.
Colour stops being a cost line: a screen-printed shirt pays for every shade in the artwork, while DTG runs three shades and twenty through the same pass, which is what lets photographs, gradients and fine shading sit on a t-shirt rather than a flat logo, because nothing is lost to a colour limit.
Sampling with DTG means the sample itself carries your real artwork rather than a colour reference, because there is no plate to cut first. You approve the actual print on the actual cloth, and bulk comes back as the piece you already held in hand, so there is nothing left to interpret between the two.
