Corduroy lives or dies on nap direction. Every piece has to be cut the same way up, because the pile catches light in the opposite way when it is reversed, and one sleeve laid the other way shows as a lighter panel under a streetlight. Thick pile under the placket is the second problem: the wale has to be pressed flat and topstitched, or the zip waves open and the pocket edge bulges out of line.

The pile holds air, so the garment is warm without a lining, and the wide rib at cuffs and waist keeps the sleeve from swallowing the hand. Oversized here means room at the chest and shoulder rather than length, so it hangs over a tee without riding up. It stands away from the body instead of draping.
